SD Holdings Partners with Charlotte Hornets’ Frank Kaminsky and McAlister’s Deli to Promote Autism Speaks’ “Light It Up Blue” through the “Cookies for a Cause” Campaign

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (March 31, 2017) — A Charlotte-based franchise, Southern Deli (SD) Holdings, LLC is partnering with Charlotte Hornets player Frank Kaminsky and McAlister’s Deli, using its “Cookies for a Cause” campaign to promote Autism Speaks’ international “Light It Up Blue” initiative. To encourage understanding and acceptance of children and adults with autism, thousands of landmarks, homes and businesses in more than 150 countries will be lit in blue on April 2, World Autism Awareness Day, marking the start of World Autism Month.

Throughout April, McAlister’s Deli will be turning their sugar cookies blue in support of Autism Speaks’ “Light it up Blue” campaign.  Guests can purchase these cookies and be entered to win a lunch with Frank Kaminsky. Two (2) winners along with one (1) guest each will be chosen by a drawing and will have lunch with Kaminsky on a date to be determined after the drawing. Winners and their guests will be invited to the McAlister’s Deli located at the Bank of America Plaza in Charlotte, N.C. for the lunch. One (1) winner will also be drawn at each participating location to win a $100 McAlister’s Deli Gift Card. Fifty cents of each blue sugar cookie sold in the North Carolina, Fort Mill, S.C. and Rock Hill, S.C. locations will be donated to Autism Speaks, which provides local resources, information and free online tool kits to people with autism and their families.

McAlister’s Deli will also be donating $150 for each 3 point shot Frank Kaminsky hits for the remainder of the basketball season.  In his continued support of Autism Speaks, Kaminsky has agreed to match the total donation for this in-game incentive as well.

“We’re proud to partner with Frank Kaminsky and Autism Speaks, for our second year in a row, to be a part of the ‘Light It Up Blue’ campaign,” said Yaron Goldman, CEO of SD Holdings. “This promotion is a staple in our partnership and we are proud to have the opportunity to raise awareness and funds to support the cause.”

“The commitment and generosity of all three partners help us meet the diverse needs of people with autism, across the spectrum and throughout the life span,” said Lisa Goring, Autism Speaks chief program and marketing officer.

Known for its American regional favorites served with a side of genuine hospitality, McAlister’s Deli stems from humble beginnings. Opening its first store in a converted gas station in Oxford, Miss., McAlister’s Deli has grown into one of the nation’s top dining franchises.

Autism, or autism spectrum disorder, refers to a broad range of conditions characterized by challenges with social skills, repetitive behaviors, speech and nonverbal communication, as well as by unique strengths and differences. We now know that there is not one autism but many subtypes, most caused by a combination of genetic and environmental influences. An estimated 1 in 68 children is on the autism spectrum.

Autism Speaks is dedicated to promoting solutions, across the spectrum and throughout the life span, for the needs of individuals with autism and their families. We do this through advocacy and support; increasing understanding and acceptance of autism spectrum disorder; and advancing research into causes and better interventions for autism spectrum disorder and related conditions. We empower people with autism and their families with resources, online tools and information covering the life span. To find resources, join a fundraising walk or make a donation, go to
